This mango, strawberry, and banana smoothie with lime juice is a quick and easy dairy-free recipe for a refreshing beverage.
The recipe uses simple ingredients and can be made in about 5 minutes, using frozen mangoes and strawberries. The mango strawberry and banana smoothie is naturally sweet from the fruit, and you can add the optional spinach to get a serving of greens. The recipe is adaptable, if you’re not a fan of lime juice it can be skipped. I enjoy adding some type of citrus or even kiwi for a pop of brightness to smoothies.

Ingredient notes and substitutions
The strawberry mango and banana smoothie recipe uses simple ingredients, but please see the recipe card below for the exact measurements.
Frozen mango - Frozen or fresh ripe mango can be used. I opt for frozen for ease. It’s already ripe, prepped, and ready to use, and I can have it on hand to quickly make a smoothie. For more recipes using frozen mango try a tropical island green smoothie or mango overnight oats.
Frozen strawberries - Frozen or fresh strawberries can be used. If you use all fresh fruit then the smoothie won’t be chilled. You can use ice cubes to chill the smoothie but it may dilute the flavor. I prefer using a combination of fresh and frozen fruit to retain the flavor and have a chilled smoothie. For more recipes using frozen strawberries try a blackberry strawberry smoothie or dairy-free strawberry overnight oats.
Ripe banana - I use a ripe brown spotted banana to add sweetness to the smoothie and to keep some of the components fresh. I wouldn’t use an unripe banana, make sure it has brown spots to add sweetness and more banana flavor.
Fresh spinach (optional) - If you’re new to adding greens to smoothies you may want to start with 1 cup of fresh spinach. Spinach is milder than kale and can be easily covered up by fruit.
Fresh kale leaves can also be used. Pull the stem from the kale leaves, discard the stem, and tear the leaves into bite-size pieces. If you don’t have a high-speed blender and your blender has trouble with kale; try blending the water with just the kale first, then add the fruit and lime juice.
Lime - Fresh lime juice is best to add a bright citrus flavor to the smoothie. I prefer to use the juice of half a lime when making it without the spinach, and the juice of a whole lime when making the smoothie with spinach. Adjust the amount of lime juice to suit your personal preference.
If you substitute with lemon juice start with 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, taste, and add more if needed.
Water - The water can be substituted with coconut water.
How to make a mango strawberry and banana smoothie
Smoothies are so easy to make, just add everything to a blender and blend until smooth.
I use the juice of half a lime if I’m making it without the fresh spinach, and the juice of the entire lime if I’m making it with spinach. The lime juice can be more intense without the spinach but taste and adjust to your liking.
The amount of water may need to be altered depending on whether you use all fresh or all frozen fruit in this healthy smoothie. Add more water if it’s too thick, the smoothie should be able to pour easily out of the blender.
If you use the optional spinach it will turn your smoothie green.
Tips
- Use a combination of fresh and frozen fruit to have a chilled banana strawberry mango smoothie.
- Adjust the water to have a thinner or thicker smoothie. The needed amount of water may vary depending on whether you use all fresh or all frozen fruit to make this mango strawberry banana smoothie.
- If you substitute the spinach for kale and your blender has trouble with kale, try blending the water with just the kale first, then add the fruit and lime juice.
Variations
Enjoy the strawberry mango banana smoothie as is or try a different variation.
- Add fresh spinach or kale to pack in more veggies.
- Use orange juice instead of lime juice.
- Try adding kiwi instead of lime juice.
- To make the smoothie less sweet, use more spinach or kale than the suggested amount in the recipe. Kale will have a stronger flavor than spinach.
- Reduce the water and make the smoothie into a smoothie bowl. Top it with chia seeds, hemp seeds, fresh fruit, and oil-free granola.
Serving suggestions
Smoothies tend to be delicious but not very filling. I use them as an afternoon snack and not as a main meal. To enjoy this smoothie as a meal try pairing it with vegan avocado toast, vegan toast, overnight oats, or plant-based granola.
Storage
The strawberry mango banana smoothie is best if served immediately, but store the leftover smoothie in an airtight container with a lid in the refrigerator and consume it within 24 hours. If there is any liquid separation, stir it back in. Leftovers can be frozen in ice cube trays and used later to add flavor to another smoothie.
Frequently asked questions
If you’re new to adding greens to your smoothie and not sure if you’d like it, start with spinach. It has a milder taste than kale and it’s easier to cover up with fruit. You can also try adding half the amount of greens, then over time slowly increase the amount as you get used to them.
The smoothie is best the day it's made, but if needed it can be made a day in advance. If there is any liquid separation give it a good stir before consuming.
Another option is to pre-measure out the fruit and spinach, then freeze in a freezer-safe container with or without the banana. Write on the freezer-safe bag or container the amount of liquid and any other ingredients needed to finish the smoothie. Then everything is measured out and ready to go besides the water and lime juice.
If you use all frozen ingredients in the smoothie, you may need to add more liquid when making the recipe.
If the banana mango strawberry smoothie is too thick, add more water for a thinner smoothie.
If the smoothie is too thin, add more frozen fruit, banana, or more fresh spinach until the smoothie is thick enough.
